For those of you who have been living under a rock for the past few years let us enlighten you. There is a new way of spreading the word and it is called social media. Twitter is a social media platform that was born in 2006, it is often referred to as the SMS of the Internet, and it is used to send messages to people of a maximum 140 characters in length.

Poker players have used twitter since its inception; they use it to keep their followers updated on tournament progress. In the past few years the use of Twitter in the poker environment has changed a great deal. It is no longer just used by players but for everyone involved in poker.

The WSOP has just started and already poker news is being created and Twitter is the forum that is spreading these titbits like a forest fire. Whether or not it is news that Phil Ivey has boycotted the WSOP and is suing Tiltware, James Bord and John Juanda are separated by security as Bord brands him a cheat, a slightly lubricated Men Nguyen stands up and shouts “when did I ever cheat?” or James Sudworth misses his flight after travelling to Gatwick when his flight left Heathrow! You will find the news breaks through Twitter first.

All the major poker news outlets and live reporting teams all have their hand for hand analysis spread through Twitter so you can get all of the action from wherever you are in the world.

It may only be 140 characters but in poker terms Twitter is proving to be a big hit.

Getting Started with Online Poker

No matter if you are playing Video Poker for fun or for Real Money, click the Deal / Draw button when you are ready to play in order for you to receive your cards.

Improve your hand by holding certain cards and getting rid of useless cards. The cards to get rid of will be replaced with new cards once you click the Deal / Draw button again.

Rules of Online Video Poker

Online Video Poker rules are as follows:

place your money into the Video Poker Machine. Then click on the Deal / Draw button. Once you have seen your cards, decide on which cards you wish to keep and which you wish to get rid of by pressing the Hold button for the cards you are keeping. After clicking the Deal / Draw button again you redo this process over and over again or until you aren't having fun anymore. Once you feel that you are finished playing then click the Credit / Cash Out button.

‘Double Playoff Round' - an Online Video Poker Plus

When playing Draw Poker and you have won your hand you have the option to double your money in a Second round known as "Double Playoff Round." Simply click on "Collect" to get your winnings if you don't wish to take part in this.

The way it works is the machine's cards are face down, and the machine then turns over one card. You then place your bet on whether the next card is greater or lower than the original card that the machine turned over.

If the card is higher than the first card you have won that hand and your money is doubled. If it is lower then you lose your money, but if it is the same value card nobody wins or loses that hand. In order to double your bet in the Double Playoff Round, you have to click the "Double" button.

Below are your winning hand combinations when playing Video Poker online:

Kings or Better: Kings and higher (Aces, in other words).

Jacks or Better: A pair only counts if it's Jacks or higher.

Four of a Kind: 4 cards with the same value.

Three of a Kind: 3 cards with the same value.

Two Pair: 2 sets of pairs having the same card value.
